Senior Software Engineer - Investment

Location: Boston, MA(Hybrid, 2 days per week in office)
Employment Type: Full-Time

A leading global investment management firm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Investment Technology organization.

This team builds and supports the core platforms, services, and data capabilities that power investment research, portfolio analytics, trading support functions, risk management, and operational processes across the firm.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work across software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data platforms to develop scalable solutions that enable investment professionals and technology teams to efficiently access, process, and leverage critical business and market data. You will help shape the next generation of platform capabilities that support a highly data-driven investment environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and support scalable cloud-native applications and shared platform services.
  • Build and enhance platform capabilities supporting both batch and real-time data processing workloads.
  • Develop solutions focused on data ingestion, metadata management, observability, governance, performance optimization, and operational efficiency.
  • Create robust APIs, frameworks, and reusable software components that accelerate development across investment technology teams.
  • Drive engineering best practices through automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and monitoring.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches to improve scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.
  • Partner with investment, technology, and business stakeholders to design and deliver scalable technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize production systems to ensure stability, resiliency, and strong operational performance.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and information security teams to ensure compliance with enterprise standards.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building enterprise applications, distributed systems, cloud platforms, or developer tooling.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented design, system design, testing methodologies, and software architecture.
  • Professional experience with at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, C#, Go, or similar.
  • Experience developing and deploying applications in AWS or another major cloud platform.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies such as Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
  • Experience designing and developing APIs using FastAPI, Spring Boot, OpenAPI, or equivalent technologies.
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures and messaging platforms such as Kafka, Kinesis, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges and quickly learn new technologies.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within investment management, asset management, capital markets, hedge funds, trading technology, fintech, or financial services environments.
  • Knowledge of modern data engineering practices and large-scale data platforms.
  • Experience supporting highly available, business-critical systems.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience implementing observability, monitoring, and logging solutions in cloud environments.
