Senior DevOps Engineer
New York City (3 days per week in office)
We're working with a well-funded startup building a large-scale consumer platform from the ground up. With significant growth ahead, they're investing heavily in the infrastructure, tooling, and operational foundations needed to support a high-traffic, real-time product.
They're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to take ownership of the platform infrastructure and help scale systems that are reliable, secure, and easy for engineers to build on. You'll work closely with backend, security, and product engineering teams, playing a key role in shaping how software is built, deployed, and operated across the business.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, improving developer experience, and building systems that can scale alongside a fast-growing engineering organisation.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure across AWS and Kubernetes environments
• Improve deployment processes, release workflows, and developer tooling to enable faster and safer delivery
• Manage and optimise Kubernetes clusters, including networking, scaling, workload management, and platform reliability
• Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform
• Develop monitoring, alerting, and observability capabilities to improve system reliability and incident response
• Partner with engineering teams to troubleshoot production issues and resolve performance bottlenecks
• Automate operational processes and reduce manual overhead across the platform
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and build systems to support efficient software delivery
• Support security initiatives across infrastructure, access controls, secrets management, and deployment practices
• Monitor infrastructure performance, reliability, and cloud spend to identify opportunities for optimisation
• Contribute to technical discussions and architectural decisions across the platform
• Participate in incident response and support operational readiness across production systems
Technical Requirements
• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or a similar infrastructure-focused role
• Strong experience working within AWS environments
• Hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production at scale
• Experience building and managing infrastructure using Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools
• Strong understanding of Linux, networking, containers, DNS, load balancing, and security best practices
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Familiarity with observability practices across metrics, logs, tracing, dashboards, and alerting
• Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking, and application layers
• Experience operating production systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance
• Ability to work closely with software engineers and balance speed, reliability, and maintainability
Nice to Have
• Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog
• Experience supporting high-scale consumer products or real-time applications
• Familiarity with Kubernetes tooling such as autoscaling, ingress controllers, service mesh, or policy frameworks
• Experience with GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or other modern CI/CD and GitOps tooling
• Experience with AWS services including EKS, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, CloudFront, Route 53, and VPC networking
• Experience improving developer experience through internal tooling and platform engineering initiatives
• Understanding of database operations, performance tuning, and scaling strategies
• Exposure to incident management, postmortems, and operational excellence practices
• Experience working within security-conscious or highly regulated environments
• Strong understanding of cloud cost management and optimisation
