Freelance .NET Architect - Lead the Tech Behind Europe’s Energy Transition.

We’re hiring for a standout freelance opportunity with a leading European energy infrastructure operator. Step into a technical leadership role that directly supports the modernisation of critical systems powering Europe’s green energy shift.


Logistics:
  • Position: Freelance .NET Architect
  • Duration: 12-Month Contract (with yearly extensions)
  • Location: Hybrid – 2 days onsite a week
  • Languages: English (French or Dutch required)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Day Rate: € (Competitive & Negotiable)
Core Responsibilities:
  • Act as the lead architect across multiple development teams working on high-impact .NET applications.
  • Drive modernisation of legacy systems, guiding the migration to .NET 8 (and eventually .NET 10).
  • Shape future-ready architecture strategies targeting Kubernetes adoption within 2 years.
  • Coach experienced full-stack .NET teams and support complex issue resolution and scalable solution design.
  • Collaborate in Agile/Scrum teams, coordinate sprint planning, and align architecture vision with product and business goals.
  • Facilitate architectural workshops, technical deep-dives, and mentoring sessions.
Tech Stack You'll Influence:
  • .NET 8 / .NET Framework 4.x
  • C#WPF, and Blazor (a plus)
  • SQL / MongoDB
  • RabbitMQHangfire
  • Clean ArchitectureNServiceBus ? Dapr
  • Kubernetes (target)
What You Bring:
  • 4+ years of experience as a .NET Architect working in complex, enterprise environments.
  • Strong coaching, communication, and leadership capabilities across multiple dev teams.
  • Expertise in clean architecture, microservices, and scalable backend ecosystems.
  • Ability to challenge technical and product decisions constructively and translate complex topics to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on, structured, and pragmatic approach to architecture and technical problem-solving.
  • EU work authorisation or relevant permits (mandatory for non-EU consultants based in Belgium).
Bonus Points For:
  • Experience modernising legacy desktop applications (WPF)
  • Background in energy, infrastructure, or industrial domains
  • Passion for sustainable tech and digital transformation at scale
