We’re looking for a Senior / Expert Backend Java Developer to join a major organisation in the financial services industry in Belgium. You’ll work within an agile product tribe responsible for digital channels used by enterprise clients, contributing to both feature delivery and technical decision-making.
This is a backend-focused role. While full-stack exposure is a plus, the emphasis is on strong Java backend skills and the ability to clearly explain the why behind technical and architectural choices.

Core Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend applications using Java and Spring.
- Develop and maintain REST APIs with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Apply clean code, refactoring, and TDD best practices.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps activities.
- Collaborate closely within cross-functional Agile squads.
- Participate in technical discussions and explain design decisions clearly.
- 6+ years of backend Java experience.
- Strong knowledge of Java, Spring, Maven, REST, and databases.
- Solid understanding of OO principles, SOLID, DDD, and design patterns.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD tools, SAST, and containers (Docker).
- Practical experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Fluent English (French or Dutch is a plus).
- Exposure to frontend technologies such as React or Node.js.
- Experience contributing beyond a single discipline within cross-functional teams.
